What a match, with a well-deserved 4-2 victory for England (although in fairness Croatia kept us going right until the last few minutes) pulling back from an initial goal down to go into the quarter finals in style.
Once again Rooney’s face will undoubtably be all over the papers tomorrow, and he’s shaping up to become player of the tournament no matter what happens to England now.
I wish we were up against Greece as opposed to Portugal next match, because the home team always has the advantage of great support and morale. However, with 40,000 England fans and the Owen/Rooney combination up front I reckon we still have a good chance of reaching the semi-finals. Although Owen hasn’t managed to score yet, I think his time will come fairly soon and to be honest Rooney wouldn’t be doing as well as he is without his older partner.
The one thing I don’t like about Rooney is that he dives quite a bit, its lowering to the level of the continental diving sides and I don’t like it.
He’s also in danger of missing the semi-finals if he gets a booking in the next game. Rooney is a lot more aggressive than Owen ever was but I think if he just calms down a bit then he could easily be one of the stars of the tournament.
