I went to see the the second Pirates of the Carribean film with Kirk this afternoon, mainly because I hadn’t been to the cinema in ages (excluding X-Men 3, which we don’t talk about) and it was about the only thing on that I thought was worth going to see. Unfortunately I haven’t seen the first film, so I probably missed some of the back story, but it was a good laugh nevertheless. Johnny Depp was brilliant as the flamboyant and slightly camp Jack Sparrow, and there were some genuinely funny moments, including a three-way swordfight. I was a little bit disappointed by the ending, which left the door wide open for a sequel (although to be fair it is already in production and due for release sometime next year), but I’m actually looking forward to seeing the next installment, provided it isn’t as awful as most third films in a series tend to be. I can’t really say much more without spoiling the film for other people, especially as it’s only just been released, but I’d definitely recommend going to see it. It’s even a film that both Kirk and I enjoy, which is highly unusual.
On a side note, I also recognised Jonathan Pryce who played the Master in the Doctor Who Comic Relief special The Curse of Fatal Death. His voice is very distinctive and he’s a versatile actor, although he doesn’t get much of a part in this particular film.
Oh and Keira Knightley, mmm… 🙂
Yes KK!!
