For those of you who didn’t know, we decided to bring in the new year in style by having a house party at the place where I live in Manchester (well, actually there were various plans being thrown around until it was decided on a house party and as usual I opened my big mouth and volunteered to be the host…).
Anyway, it was a bit quiet at first because I went to pick Eddie up early in order to avoid the insane increase in bus fares that occurs as soon as darkness falls on NYE. He also brought some extremely fattening but also very tasty chocolate brownies for people to eat. Rachel was also there (being my housemate I guess she didn’t get much choice 🙂 with Allistair as well.
As 8pm approached, Cez rang to ask where he could pick up some booze on the way. Before he could get here, Tom turned up with Juliette and Jennie. I then went out to meet Cez part way because he wasn’t sure where out house was, but somehow (despite following exactly the same roads!) I managed to miss him and in my usual oreinteering style went round in a loop and then came back only to find Cez in our lounge starting on the beer. 🙂
As it approached midnight, the alcohol consumption continued at a steady pace, and as the clock struck twelve the champagne was opened and we went outside to watch the fireworks. The only problem was that we had no wine or champagne glasses, so we had to drink out of tumblers which made it a bit too easy to drink far more than you might otherwise do.
The drinking continued into the early hours of the morning, with conversations ranging from the usual “[insert name here] for Prez! Four more years!” (you have to be a Warped regular to get this reference) to Cez and I sharing the inflatable sofa (don’t ask). The chocolate brownies disappeared at a disturbingly fast rate despite the fact that many people had “lose weight” as one of their resolutions for 2005. Poor Mike looked a bit confused at this point because everyone else except Allistair was a member of Warped. 🙂
It wasn’t until 4:30am when people decided that it actually might be a good idea to go home and sleep off the alcohol. Thankfully I only had to stagger upstairs, which was probably a good thing because by this time I was practically falling asleep in the chair.
All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable night/early morning. The only disappointments were that some people (including Kate and David) couldn’t make it for various reasons and Jennie was a bit ill, but other than that it was great. Oh, and I didn’t have a hangover in the morning, despite drinking the best part of a bottle of wine and goodness knows how much champagne (difficult to measure when it’s in a tumbler and topped up several times).
Big thanks to everyone who turned up, I might not have said it on the night but it did mean a lot to me that you came to the party.
Sounds like a fun night!
This is an inappropiate place to say it, but new blog is looking v.good 🙂
It was indeed a good night. 🙂
Thanks for the comments on how the blog looks, I’m adding some new features at the moment such as the ability to be emailed when a post is commented on (although this won’t be fully active until I have installed and configured Postfix on the server) and entry categorisation.
My thanks for hosting the party, it was a most amusing night.
ps. I must say that inflatable sofa is particularly cool too. Bouncy bouncy. grin
ayeaye?
I had great fun really – shouldn’t have over-indulged the night before 🙂
Bloody Tom and that bottle of red wine grrs
Thanks for holding party and being a groovy host 🙂
Thanks for being groovy guests and not wrecking the place! 😉 (it only took about twenty minutes to clear up).
